Elevator Speech Builder

$149.00

The purpose of an elevator pitch or self-introduction is to compel the listener to act on your behalf.  That may mean continuing to listen for their own self-interest or with thoughts of those in his or her own network for the purposes of future introduction.

The perfect pitch does both.  It relies on the idea, “If this is good for me it will be good for my friends too.”

It is important to remember that you and your solutions are not right for everyone.  Therefore, you should build your elevator pitch like a story.  Don’t bury the lead.  Tell the listener immediately why he or she should listen.  Your elevator pitch should be short enough to keep interest but complete enough to allow the listener to know if he or she should have further interest.  However, in a group setting an elevator pitch should never last more than thirty seconds and the closer you get to fifteen the better.

Beginning an elevator pitch in a group setting requires the following steps:

1. If sitting, push your chair back from the table when the person next to you pushes their chair back to stand up. This ensures if there is noise made from moving chairs or clanking dishes, the noise is attributed to the person before you and will not distract those from hearing your pitch when it is time.  Avoid sitting in a booth if possible.  If you must sit in a booth sit on the outside to ensure your standing up will be as graceful as possible.
